We build great African games. We are currently working on HIRU, a Maasai-inspired 3D Video Game for consoles &amp; PC. We immerse the player in the landscapes, beauty &amp; culture of Africa as never seen before. Our vision for HIRU is to inspire cultural conversation, similar to Black Panther, Money Heist &amp; Squid Game.
HIRU is the teenage son of a Maasai king. He is out herding cattle with his brother &amp; stumbles upon poachers hunting an elephant herd. He protects the elephants successfully and goes back home to find the poachers attacking his village as revenge. While fighting, he is knocked out &amp; wakes up to find his village destroyed, his family &amp; clan killed &amp; his sister kidnapped by the poachers. The gameplay is focused on intense combat, strong narrative and discovery within the environment. Players will experience the people, animals and culture of Africa.
We have signed groundbreaking partnerships with Minecraft, Xbox &amp; Microsoft as one of the few African studios to do so. We have also received support from Ubisoft, Epic Games &amp; Steam
SCARLET-IZAYA
We are an Afrofuturism audio-visual duo from Kampala, Uganda called SCARLET-IZAYA that use generative art to tell African stories. A combination of two artistes : <a href="https://www.instagram.com/izayathecomposer/">iZAYA THE COMPOSER</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/scarletmotiff/">SCARLETT MOTIFF</a>.
We have independently had successful showcases of our work all over the globe including festivals and showcases in Riyadh, Morocco, Zanzibar, Cape Town, Kigali&#8230;   Our latest collaborative audio-visual work is titled NEGATIVE TIME: A story about the African interpretation of time.

We are an umbrella organisation for cultural entrepreneurs in the Republic of Guinea. The network comprises 77 CCIs operating in various fields of activity in Guinea&#8217;s cultural and creative ecosystem. We work primarily to promote and structure CCIs and to professionalise the arts professions. We also implement and support initiatives developing digital solutions applied to culture. Our interest in taking part in this year&#8217;s event is to broaden our field of action and develop new partnerships in order to increase our country&#8217;s visibility and positioning.

With over thirty studios, creators and professionals in digital creativity, Quebec will shine brightly during the 4 days of programming offered by the KIKK Festival. You won&#8217;t be left out in the cold when we mix the digital arts and creative industries in a creative lab, explore the relationship between sound and light, and create digital sound, music and visuals !
L&#8217;Effet Québec will be presenting a number of events to promote meetings and business partnerships for Quebec creative and digital companies.
1. A talk : <a href="https://www.kikk.be/fr/kikk-for-pro-fr/conferences-fr/l-effet-quebec-fr-2">L&#8217;Effet Québec : Immersive installations &amp; large-scale public projects</a> with speakers from SAT, MUTEK, Ottomata and Transversal.

Almario&#8217;s work explores the relationship between the individual and architectural space. Paolo comes to art through the digital technologies that are increasingly present in our lives, infiltrating the fabric of reality to modify our way of being, acting and thinking. He creates layered amalgams of pixelated units that aim for an image/machine or man/machine encounter in devices, developing a discourse on systems and their digitisation.
Mélanie Chadenet-Valin
She&#8217;s been working in the web industry for nearly 15 years, and has been a volunteer for the Web à Québec event for around 10 years. Last year, during her sabbatical, she worked on the redesign of the Musée de la civilisation&#8217;s website, which gave her the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of culture mixed with the digital world.

&#8211; Second highlight : the <a href="https://hacnum.org/">HACNUM</a> talk (IN FRENCH) in the Friends Room, on Friday 27 from 11.40am to 12.20pm. This year, the talk will be entitled <a href="https://www.kikk.be/fr/kikk-for-pro-fr/conferences-fr/hacnum">Exploring the French digital creation ecosystem</a>. There will be five speakers : Céline Berthoumieux (general delegate of the HACNUM network), Léa Conrath (general coordinator of the HACNUM network), Luc Brou (coordinator of <a href="http://oblique-s.org">Oblique/s</a>), Gaëtan Gromer (artistic director of <a href="https://www.le2p2.com/">Ensembles 2.2</a>) and Hannah Loué (project manager at the <a href="https://www.institutfrancais.com/fr">Institut Français</a>). Each of them will discuss their own experiences in order to understand the challenges facing digital creation in France. How can we support the circulation of works and artists ? How can a network be structured and promoted ?
The aim of the Pavillon France is to give Belgian and international professionals the opportunity to discover an attractive ecosystem and meet innovative companies, emerging artists and French professionals who are influencers in the field of digital creation.
The initiative is being led by the French Embassy in Belgium as part of EXTRA, with the support of the French Institute, the French local authorities, the <a href="https://hacnum.org/">HACNUM</a> network and Le Fresnoy.

<a href="https://www.bliiida.fr/">BLIIDA</a>
A space for creation, production and innovation, dedicated to artistic practices and digital industries, located in former bus depots in Metz. It&#8217;s a third-party space where various resident structures and companies are working to rethink the ways in which we produce, consume, innovate, live and breathe. It&#8217;s an open-ended, modular facility that encourages the emergence, development and support of projects by encouraging people to meet and exchange skills.
<a href="https://www.lacitadelledemarseille.org/">The Citadelle of Marseille</a>
Since December 2021, La Citadelle has been managing Fort d&#8217;Entrecasteaux, a five-hectare site overlooking Marseille&#8217;s Old Port, listed as a Historic Monument in 1969 and also known as &#8220;Fort Saint-Nicolas&#8221;. It&#8217;s a real place to live and create, with a participative approach and a permanent artistic eye. A first date has already been set for May 2024, when the North Gardens will be permanently open to the public. In the meantime, there will be a wide range of activities open to the public, including tours and artistic and cultural events.
<a href="https://www.lecubegarges.fr/">Le Cube Garges</a>
A centre for interdisciplinary and digital cultural innovation, comprising six 8,000 m² facilities. Focused on creative renewal, it combines the discovery of new artistic forms, inclusive practices, digital training and interdisciplinary reflection on societal issues.
<a href="https://www.36degres.art/oeuvres">36 degrees</a>
An association born of the desire to create digital and human artistic experiences by experimenting with unique formats. A hybrid project that unites digital arts and new media with electronic music, 36 degrés promotes digital art by creating a connection between the public, the works and the artists during off-site exhibitions. 36 degrés shares and supports digital creations and their creators in its online and IRL curatorial projects.
<a href="https://www.electroni-k.org/">Electroni[k]</a>
A project dedicated to contemporary artistic creation in the fields of sound, image and new media, with a particular focus on multi-disciplinary and innovative creations. Every year in October, the association produces the Maintenant festival, designed as a snapshot of contemporary artistic practices, and works with its partners to create a wide range of year-round cultural activities for a wide range of audiences, focusing on the arts, music and technology.

A creative studio working in the field of sound and hybrid arts, specialising in designing projects for public spaces. Experts in the field of sound, they imagine, produce, accompany and disseminate multifaceted creations: compositions, installations and sound trails. These works are the fruit of precise and accessible artistic work, accompanied by a territorial approach and a tailored range of mediation services.

The festival presents exhibitions and performances that use sound, light and movement to explore our contemporary relationship with technology and the environment in a variety of surprising ways.
<a href="https://www.festivalzero1.com/">ZERO1 Festival</a>
Organised by students in the master&#8217;s 2 course in Audiovisual and Digital Project Management at La Rochelle University, this festival combines the digital arts with the heritage of La Rochelle. For the past 4 years, the festival has been staging exhibitions, conferences and workshops, as well as digital experiments in the service of art, in the key venues of La Rochelle.
<a href="https://www.theatre-hexagone.eu/">Hexagone Scène nationale arts sciences</a>
L&#8217;Hexagone is a theatre with national stage accreditation located in Meylan, near Grenoble. Its work focuses on the encounter between the arts and science. Since 2001, L&#8217;Hexagone has been working to bring the arts and sciences together through technology and local initiatives. The establishment encourages encounters, research, creation and innovation around the theme of the arts and sciences.
<a href="https://www.ovvo.studio/en/">OVVO Studio</a>
A studio based in Montreuil that develops a multi-disciplinary approach to creation, through art installations, events, scenographic research, projection mapping, hybrid experiences, technical expertise in projection and interactive design.

The Théâtres &amp; Médiations à l&#8217;ère numérique (TMNlab) laboratory aims to bring together and lead a learning community of performing arts professionals to produce and disseminate a responsible digital culture: to develop the sector&#8217;s digital literacy, a digital culture in tune with the issues of our time; to question, experiment with and document existing and future digital uses, tools and systems; to facilitate exchange, cooperation and peer-to-peer training in France and abroad; to give visibility to, promote and gain recognition for innovative professional practices. This is to be achieved through the creation of a digital collaborative space, the organisation of events and all other means and activities likely to contribute to the achievement of its corporate purpose.
<a href="https://www.rencontres-audiovisuelles.org/">Rencontres audiovisuelles de Lille</a>
An association dedicated to new images in the Hauts-de-France region since 1998. The association produces the Festival International du Court Métrage, runs an annual screening room in Lille (L&#8217;hybride), and offers a wide range of distribution initiatives in the region. Organises educational screenings, awareness-raising initiatives, audiovisual creation workshops and artistic activities around image education. Supports the development of the video mapping industry in Europe, particularly in the Hauts-de-France region (Video Mapping Festival, Video Mapping Contest).
<a href="https://saintex-reims.com/">Saint-Ex, digital culture &#8211; Reims, Grand-Est operator</a>
A place for experimentation, transmission, creation and artistic dissemination dedicated to the digital arts, &#8220;maker&#8221; culture and technological innovation. The strength and uniqueness of the Saint-Ex project lies in its ability to combine artistic and cultural aspects, building bridges between artistic creation and digital practices. Saint-Ex&#8217;s mission is to develop people&#8217;s sensitivity, vision and curiosity about contemporary artistic expression.
<a href="https://chroniques.org/">Chroniques</a>
The Chroniques biennial, also known as the Biennale des Imaginaires Numériques, is an event supported by the associations Seconde Nature and Zinc. It takes place every two years in the Southern Region, notably in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, under this name since 2018. The event aims to promote new practices in the artistic field in the digital age. To this end, exhibitions and meetings with the artists supported by the two associations are organised.
<a href="https://hacnum.org/">Hacnum</a>
Created in 2020, the Réseau national des arts hybrides et cultures numériques brings together more than 400 players in the sector in France. Hacnum brings together professionals from a wide range of backgrounds: artists, festivals, theatres, concert halls, third-party venues, art centres, fablabs, residencies, digital creation studios, business clusters, art galleries, universities, journalists, etc. to defend their shared interests. Its remit: to represent the hybrid arts and digital culture sector, to run the network of members, and to support institutional and cultural players.

A professional network for digital arts and culture in Normandy that communicates, informs and develops artistic and cultural initiatives in relation to digital technology. Manu Di Martino is a choreographer and multimedia visual artist. In his youth, he was introduced to movement, first through skateboarding and then through martial arts. Two paths opened up to him: science and dance. At the age of 30, he decided to devote himself entirely to the art of movement. He founded the OKUS LAB creation and development studio to disseminate his projects and promote his collaborations. Through a series of projects and choreographic encounters, he created a body development method called &#8220;OKUS FOKUS&#8221;, based on imposing constraints on the dancer&#8217;s movements, which in turn generates renewed spontaneity and a liberation of movement. Manu Di Martino is personally learning to use 3D software and his projects are currently focusing on virtual immersion (VR). The OKUS Immersive FOKUS project is currently being developed in collaboration with Poolpio (a Brussels-based studio for the creation of immersive content).

Demute is a sound studio specializing in video games and led cultural experiences. More specifically, the Brussels-based studio&#8217;s team handles the entire &#8216;sound&#8217; vertical of video game projects, from the creation of the main sounds (the dragon belching, the plane crashing&#8230;) to the programming of triggers in the game engine, so that the right sound is audible at the right time, not forgetting the music and all the hidden sounds (wind, acceleration noises&#8230;).

The mission of the team behind kingkong ? To be passionate explorers. Inspired by art, culture, the digital and innovation, kingkong is a media, a voice, which promotes enthusiastic and creative writing. It cross-breeds viewpoints, tells life stories, inspires its readers to delve into subjects, practices and aesthetics, looks deeply into and mixes ideas, suggests solutions, turns perceptions upside down, triggers frissons of all types, and offers a large dose of entertainment which is both off-the-wall and, for the most part, intelligent.
Sewn by hand in Namur, Belgium, kingkong is a media which promotes creative and digital cultures, for strollers as well as for gleaners, eager for innovations and all that is multidisciplinary.
During the festival, kingkong&#8217;s two Julie&#8217;s will be based in the Creative Village marquee, offering two original content formats :
Donut interviews : short interviews at the end of the stage, presenting the &#8220;do&#8217;s&#8221; and &#8220;don&#8217;ts&#8221; of the themes addressed by the speakers during their presentations at the festival.
Take-away interviews : Take-away is a short, on-the-spot interview format, to be followed around the city of Namur during the four days of the festival.

Marie Martineau, an expert speaker with diverse expertise, excels in delivering captivating lectures. Her dedication to knowledge sharing shines in engaging sessions, such as the MF-Touchdesigner conference in China, showcasing her ability to bridge cultural gaps. Actively participating in events like Agile Tour, she deepens her agile methodologies knowledge. With a strong scientific outreach background, she simplifies complex ideas for varied audiences. As an interactive producer at Moment Factory since 2018, Marie oversees real-time content production and software development. Her contributions have been pivotal to global productions, notably at the Boston Science Museum and immersive exhibits in New York and Shanghai.

For the workshop, the idea is to explore the interactive department&#8217;s offering by focusing on 5 axes (playful experience, connected journey, gameful experiences, data-driven experiences, augmented performances), echoing the content of the protoroom, often presented as customer demos. The aim is also to address the physical dimension, as well as technological hijacking combined with storytelling, all with a view to &#8220;outside the box&#8221; creativity. The concepts presented during the workshop will then be challenged, as participants are invited to apply the knowledge acquired to their own field, organization or company.

Building Beyond Virtual : Amplified Interactive Experiences

Étienne Mineur, born in 1968, is a French designer and publisher specializing in interactive graphics. After graduating from ENSAD in 1992, he launched his career in cultural CD-ROM, collaborating with Index+, Nofrontiere and Hyptique. His expertise attracted prestigious brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel. In 2009, he founded Volumique, focusing on the design of physical objects. More recently, he has been exploring design related to generative artificial intelligence, with projects such as a show for the city of Orange. Since 2021, he has been training through workshops and conferences on AI. He heads up a studio at ENSCI and gives workshops at various schools, including École Camondo and HEAD in Geneva.

Artificial intelligence, which simulates human intelligence, has recently made significant advances thanks to Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Today, these &#8220;intelligences&#8221; are surpassing humans in many fields, although they are totally lacking in morals and ethics. Generative AI, capable of creating seemingly original content, is therefore revolutionizing various sectors, including the graphic arts.
This experimental workshop is designed to explore the use of AI responsibly in the graphic arts, discovering how it can help develop new ideas and forms, and enhance the creative process.

Martial Geoffre-Rouland
Martial Geoffre-Rouland is a French interactive designer, residing in Lyon, founder of the interactive design studio screen-club. With a diploma from Elisava Barcelona, Higher School of Design and Engineering, his work revolves around digital art and new technologies. A jack of all trades, his projects emerge from collaborations with agencies, artists, independent studios, graphic designers, and companies, in fields as diverse as web, digital installations, or scenography. Since 2009, he has been conducting workshops and lectures in France and Europe on both technical and theoretical subjects, aiding participants in unlocking the digital potential and the language of code across various practices like visuals, sound, or data visualization. He is a member of the Graffiti Research Lab France. Additionally, he has been an artist in residency at Google Arts &amp; Culture Lab since 2020.
Gael Hugo
Gaël Hugo is a swiss interactive designer settled in Paris in 2005, where he founded &#8220;one more studio&#8221; a few years later. His design practice aims to reflect the blurry boundaries of visual communication in a digital age. Gaël Hugo likes to produce dedicated design solutions relayed by – in his own words – dubious self­-made tools to achieve unexpected visual experiences. This experimental and playful approach allowed him to work with musicians, cultural institutions as well as with artists, designers or commercial brands. Gaël Hugo is now a regular artist in residence at Google Arts &amp; Culture in Paris since 2015 where he specialized in using machine learning in creative ways and also teaches interaction design at ECAL University of art and design in Lausanne since 2006.

The workshop is hosted by Martial Geoffre-Rouland and Gaël Hugo, both of whom are artists-in-residence at the Google Arts &amp; Culture Lab. In this interactive session, we will guide participants through methods for rapid prototyping of interactive projects that combine web technologies, machine learning, and open-source frameworks. 
These hands-on projects aim to help attendees quickly build prototypes that incorporate computer vision techniques, like tracking and shape segmentation, as well as image generation capabilities.
Prerequisites for Participants
Participants should have basic skills in web development and a keen interest in JavaScript to fully engage with the workshop&#8217;s interactive elements. Each participant must come with a laptop with a webcam. A working web environment must be set up on each participant&#8217;s laptop.

Frederik De Bleser (º1978) is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp. His research focuses on the connection between art and technology and the development of free software tools for generative design and data visualization. He leads the Algorithmic Gaze research lab, developing open-source tools for creative AI. He coordinates the master in digital media at Sint Lucas, and works as a freelance data visualisation artist, creating projects for Belgian news and online democracy platforms.
Lieven Menschaert (º1975) is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp and LUCA school of arts. His main interest is in generative and computational design and thus sees AI and machine learning as the logic next step in a procedural generation practice. He works together with Frederik in the Algorithmic Gaze research lab.

Machine learning is doing some amazing things in the creative world, but going beyond the basics can quickly become overwhelming. Sure, we all know how to type a prompt into DALL-E 2 or Midjourney, but how do you make truly unique works?
Our workshop aims to demystify this journey. We&#8217;ll look at how to train a personalized model from scratch, carefully curating and preparing the data that goes into it. We&#8217;ll look at how personalized models can be used as new methods and conduits for creative expression.
Please bring your laptop. We&#8217;ll install some custom open-source software. We&#8217;ll also provide fast cloud computing resources to train your models

A Practical Guide to Artistic Machine Learning

Zachary Lieberman is an artist, researcher, and educator with a simple goal : he wants you surprised. In his work, he creates performances and installations that take human gesture as input and amplify them in different ways &#8212; making drawings come to life, imagining what the voice might look like if we could see it, transforming people&#8217;s silhouettes into music. He&#8217;s been listed as one of Fast Company&#8217;s Most Creative People and his projects have won the Golden Nica from Ars Electronica, Interactive Design of the Year from Design Museum London as well as listed in Time Magazine&#8217;s Best Inventions of the Year. He creates artwork through writing software and is a co-creator of openFrameworks, an open source C++ toolkit for creative coding and helped co-found the School for Poetic Computation, a school examining the lyrical possibilities of code. He’s also a professor at MIT’s Media Lab, where he runs the Future Sketches group.

What is computation ? What does code feel like ? How does generative design work ?
Participants are led through a series of group-based drawing exercises to help them understand computational thinking and see it as a form of expression. Through drawing activities, they understand and gain knowledge of how code works and what computation feels like.
After each exercise, we walk through example demos of existing computational tools that utilize the methods participants just employed in their drawings. This solidifies the connection between using rule-based methods within art and design and using code and computational thinking for artistic expression and craft.
No programming or technical experience is needed. We will be doing a variety of drawing exercises, so please be prepared to draw !

Working with machine learning, computer vision, social and surveillance tech spanning commercial and arts spaces.
Previously adjunct professor at NYU’s ITP, member of F.A.T. Lab, community manager for openFrameworks, and artist in residence at STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at CMU, and YCAM in Japan. During this masterclass, we will discuss the secret, behind-the-scenes stuff that rarely escapes from the studio. The parts that make everything else possible. This is the place to ask about how it was built, and why. Everything from studying the climate impact of crypto art for over a year, researching how to build the most sensitive low-light camera, experimental face analysis, reprogramming your inner voice, or writing poetry with AI. We will take an interactive participant-driven approach: Kyle will prepare to speak in detail about a dozen projects, and we will take a poll to make sure we cover the most interesting ones. Part of the workshop will be dedicated to sharing unfinished ideas and brainstorming how to build new work. Laptops are allowed but not required, and a sketchbook is encouraged.

Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian Ph.D (she/ they) is an award-winning director and designer of experiences, a filmmaker and creative director, who creates multidimensional experiential projects at the intersection of film ,science, tech, theater, politics, the arts and design. Ben Hayoun-Stépanian has founded and managed projects, commissions and platforms from all scales from grassroots community organizations (The University of the Underground) to multi millions pounds publicly funded festival (called Tour de Moon) and platforms both physical and virtual. Recognised by her peers as a ‘force of nature’ and a ‘manufacturer of the impossible’, she is known for disrupting systems and sparking radical imagination whilst supporting youth countercultures, experimental practices and pluralistic futures.

Opening KIKK festival 2023, Nelly will take you on a provocative journey through her decolonial practice, building platforms for sociological and critical impact with events. In this energetic talk, Ben Hayoun-Stépanian Ph.D will create a space for thoughts, debate and provocation around the urgent need for organized communities, nightlife and plurality in society.  Nelly will share some learnings on founding and leading LGBTQ+ youth festival Tour de Moon. This was a free, public, pluralistic, nationwide festival celebrating nightlife and youth countercultures from across the UK and beyond, a part of Unboxed, Creativity in the UK. This was the UK’s most ambitious publicly funded showcase of creative collaboration including free large-scale events, installations and globally accessible digital experiences with a focus on &#8216;non human-centric&#8217; interactions : music was sent to the moon, while moths were invited to collaborate on this totally hybrid festival of creativity with a mission to decolonise, to celebrate nature, to empower countercultures and to redistribute wealth.
You will see the behind the scenes of complex large-scale productions, she will also exclusively share the latest development of her feature film called &#8216;Doppelgangers x3&#8217;, a diasporic investigation of human settlement on the moon in collaboration with Nelly&#8217;s doppelgangers.
Who knows : in the end you might find yourself experiencing an emotional gaze made of crystals and manufactured sun ? And this is only the beginning of KIKK !

Kirsty is a multidisciplinary producer and strategic leader with a proven track record in securing international commissions and partnerships, leading organisational change and producing award-winning works of high quality and artistic ambition. She is Executive Producer for Anagram, an award-winning creative studio specialising in interactive storytelling and immersive experience design.
Previously, Kirsty worked as Business Director for the internationally renowned artist group Blast Theory for eight years. In this post, she produced artworks across multiple immersive forms including Karen (2015), a digital artwork exploring data profiling ; politically-charged immersive theatre pieces such as Operation Black Antler (2016) ; large scale international collaborations such as 2097 : We Made Ourselves Over (2017) and live interactive feature films including Bloodyminded (2018).
Kirsty also worked with Documentary Campus, 104 Films and Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Blending tangible experience and impossible stories to unearth tiny truths. How can we use immersive worlds to reimagine the world and our place in it ?
In this talk Kirsty will discuss the power of physical experiences in virtual spaces to shape perception. She will focus the talk on Anagram’s VR experience Goliath : Playing with Reality (2021), which brings together the sensory power of immersive theatre with recently available technology to playfully invite audiences into alternative worlds and a unique understanding of our own minds.

Maywa Denki, the art studio run by Novmichi Tosa, is named after the electrical company his father ran, hence the uniform typical of Japanese electrical shops that the unit&#8217;s &#8217;employees&#8217; wear.  Each Maywa Denki piece is a &#8220;product&#8221;, and exhibitions or shows are organised as &#8220;product demonstrations&#8221;. Visit any variety shop or musical instrument shop in Japan, and you&#8217;re likely to discover a display dedicated to the toy synthesiser known as the Otamatone, a curious device with a small but devoted fan base. Available in a range of sizes, this electronic instrument with the appearance of a drawn eighth note was launched in 2010 and remains one of Maywa Denki&#8217;s most famous creations. Based in Tokyo, the company marries art and commerce, democratising creativity while giving its credentials to zany fun.The heart of Maywa Denki is its co-founder, inventor, musician, artist and entrepreneur Novmichi Tosa. He fits in culturally somewhere between Devo and the Blue Man Group, Harry Partch and Alexander Calder, Akihiro Yokoi and Aki Maita (the inventors of the Tamagotchi).Live, the group offers up some jubilant popkitsch concert-performances featuring electromechanical musical instruments as absurd as they are ingenious. Their show should delight fans of electronic culture and street theatre alike.

Jack Isles is an architect, researcher and cartographer working between Italy and Spain.
Jack’s work focuses on the intersection of climatology, migration and human rights, developing spatial methodologies and analytical practices for investigating conflict across numerous scales. As a cartographer he is a member of the Swiss based agency for investigation Border Forensics, documenting state sponsored violence at Europe’s borders. Whilst as a researcher at the University of Bologna, he is a member of the ERC funded Hostile Envrioment’s project, investigating the political ecology of migration and border violence.
Jack’s work has been exhibited and published by organisations such as Human Rights Watch, Chicago Architecture Triennale, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and Elisava Escuela Universitaria de Diseño e Ingeniería de Barcelona.

Hostile Waters explores the frayed edges and intrinsic violence of Europe’s internal and external borders. Focussing on work surrounding migration across the Central Mediterranean, Jack will extrapolate upon investigative, spatial and artistic practices for documenting and denouncing violence at sea.
The talk will highlight various forensic methodologies developed by Border Forensics and LIMINAL for resisting the criminalisation of migration and widespread border surveillance, transforming the skies above the mediterranean sea.

Nadieh Bremer is a data visualization artist that once graduated as an Astronomer, started working as a data scientist before finding her true passion in the visualization of data.
As 2017&#8217;s &#8220;Best Individual&#8221; in the Information is Beautiful Awards, and co-writer of Data Sketches, she focuses on visuals that are uniquely crafted for each specific dataset, often using large and complex datasets while employing vibrant color palettes.
She&#8217;s made visualizations and art for companies such as Google News Lab, Sony Music, UNICEF, the New York Times and UNESCO.

Connections are a part of us, of the world. From the connections between people, between cultures, within language, and more. In these days when more data is collected daily than we could ever hope to explore, the variety in connections being gathered is opening up the possibility to visualize these (often complex) networks.
During this talk, Nadieh will take you through the design process of several of her (interactive) data visualization works, from personal projects to client work. The common thread they all share, is that they all reveal connections, but all differently. From a family tree of 3000 people connected to the European Royal houses, to those existing between our Intangible Cultural Heritage created for UNESCO, to connections we have drawn in the night skies, something with cats and dogs&#8230;
Revealing that all types of connections are unique and revealing the intricacies that lie within them requires a creative, iterative and custom approach.

Étienne Mineur, born in May 1968, is a French designer, publisher and teacher whose work focuses on the relationship between graphic design and interactivity. He is the founder of Editions Volumiques, a publishing house as well as a studio for the invention, design and development of new types of games, toys and books, based on the relationship between the tangible and the digital.

Artificial intelligence, which simulates human intelligence, has made significant advances thanks to Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Today, these &#8220;intelligences&#8221; are outperforming humans in many fields, although they lack morals and ethics. Generative AI, capable of creating original content, is revolutionizing various sectors, including design. During this presentation Étienne will be showing a number of projects using AI in design, and discovering how these AIs can help develop new ideas and forms, and improve the creative process.

Maya Indira Ganesh is a technology and digital cultures researcher, 
writer and educator. She co-directs a master’s program on AI Ethics &amp; 
Society at the University of Cambridge and is a senior research fellow 
at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. She was awarded a Drphil in Cultural Studies from Leuphana University, Lüneburg, Germany, for work that analysed the social shaping of ethics and ‘autonomy’ in driverless cars. In 2022 she co-curated AI Anarchies with Nora N Khan for the German Academy of the Arts/Junge Akademie ; and in 2023 Maya is an advisor to Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin, for their first exhibition on AI, Ether’s Bloom.

Georgina Voss is an artist, writer, and educator. Her work explores the presence and politics of large-scale technologies, heavy industry, and complex systems through performance, multi-media installations, writing, and long-term research projects.
Georgina has shown work at institutions including transmediale, TAC Eindhoven, Tate, Auto Italia South East, STUK, Brighton Digital Festival, Akademie Schloss Solitude, Vienna Design Biennale, and London Design Festival. She is author of the forthcoming book, Systems Ultra, published by Verso in January 2024.
Georgina is currently Reader in Systems and Deviance at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. She was founded and co-director of research studio, Strange Telemetry, and was awarded her PhD in Science and Technology Studies by SPRU, University of Sussex.

Navid Navab, born and raised in Tehran (IR), is a Montreal-based media alchemist, tabletop cosmologist, and antidisciplinary composer, who investigates the forming-giving potential of material processes. Interested in the poetics of schizo-phonia, gesture, and materiality for over a decade, Navab has been composing multi-sensory experiences, entangling bodies, machines, and materialities both in-situ and in concert, in ways that enable critical attunement to excitable matters-of-process.

Tatiana Vilela dos Santos is a multi-awarded independent game designer and artist (Maker Faire, EIGD, A MAZE., Connext&#8230;). based in Paris.
Since 2010, she has worked as a game designer for large groups (Orange, BNP Paribas, Renault, Citroën) and research centers (CNRS, Center for Interdisciplinary Research, Institut Acte) on playful projects employing new technologies or making innovative use of them.
Since 2012, she has been creating playful installations and arthouse games, exhibited around the world, as part of her interactive multimedia project MechBird. Most of her creations are playful installations and alternative controller games: video games including handmade, tangible interfaces, built specifically for these experiences.
Whether it is video games with alternative controllers or virtual reality projects, the work of Tatiana Vilela dos Santos tends to explore uncharted territories of playful art to re-enchant reality through digital technology.

At the crossroads of interactive installations and video games, the enchanting world of playful installations beckons, tantalizing with its ability to immerse the senses and captivate visitors with wonder, all while fostering active engagement. These creations playfully manipulate the physical space more than an arcade machine but they are more digitally rooted than an escape room, offering a treasure trove of creative possibilities that remain largely uncharted.
To transcend the realm of immersive digital toys and design a genuine playful adventure, one must explore the concept of tangible-digital porosity. Imagine a game designer who doesn&#8217;t confine their work to the constraints of a screen but, instead, breathes life into the entire playful apparatus, blurring the lines between pixels and matter.
Our talk seeks to answer the questions : How can we harness game design methods to craft hybrid video game experiences ? What strategies can be employed to design a captivating gameplay loop within an interactive installation ? How do we seamlessly navigate the transitions between tangible and digital spaces ? What stories can be woven into these unique environments ? And how do we harmonize the passive spectacles with the immersive interactive experience ? Crafting Magic : Transforming Interactive Installations into Playful Adventures

Kyle McDonald is a Los Angeles-based artist working with code. He crafts interactive installations, sneaky interventions, playful websites, workshops, and toolkits for other artists working with code. Exploring possibilities of new technologies to understand how they affect society, to misuse them, and build alternative futures ; aiming to share a laugh, spark curiosity, create confusion, and share spaces with magical vibes. Working with machine learning, computer vision, social and surveillance tech spanning commercial and arts spaces.
Previously adjunct professor at NYU&#8217;s ITP, member of F.A.T. Lab, community manager for openFrameworks, and artist in residence at STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at CMU, and YCAM in Japan. Work commissioned and shown around the world, including the V&amp;A, NTT ICC, Ars Electronica, Sonar, Todays Art and Eyebeam.

The last few years of Kyle&#8217;s art practice have focused on projects connected to the ocean and the climate : investigating energy infrastructure and emissions, working with humpback songs and machine learning, and assisting Polynesian sailors who are documenting sharing their traditional voyaging techniques.
This direction has rebuilt his understanding of his relationship to the environment and to others, and overturned his perspective on the role technology can play in our society.

Notes from the Pacific

Alysha Naples works at the intersection of art and technology to create experiences that are authentically supportive of the bodies, minds, and spirits of those who will participate in them. She spent more than a decade teaching at some of the top arts institutions in the United States and has received numerous awards for her innovative solutions, including a DA&amp;D Silver Award, a Webby Award for Best Services Website, and distinction as a Gold Instructor from Graphis New Talent.
Most recently, Alysha was the Chief Experience Officer for Tin Drum, a content collective creating transcendent mixed-reality experiences. Her work has been shown at the Serpentine Gallery in London, the Victoria &amp; Albert (V&amp;A) Museum in London, Pioneer Works and The Shed in New York City, and the Manchester International Film Festival, and Alysha served as a juror for the VR section of the Venice Biennale in 2019. She lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Transceive, Transport, Transcend

Daito Manabe is an artist, interaction designer, programmer and DJ, launched Rhizomatiks in 2006 and specially-appointed professor at Keio University SFC.
Manabe’s works, which range into a variety of fields, takes a new approach to everyday materials and phenomena. However, his end goal is not simply rich, high-definition realism by recognizing and recombining these familiar elemental building blocks. Rather, his practice is informed by careful observation to discover and elucidate the essential potentialities inherent to the human body, data, programming, computers, and other phenomena, thus probing the interrelationships and boundaries delineating the analog and digital, real and virtual.
A prolific collaborator, he has worked closely with a diverse roster of artists, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, OK Go, Nosaj Thing, Squarepusher, Andrea Battistoni, Mansai Nomura, Perfume and sakanaction. Further engagements include groundbreaking partnerships with the Jodrell Bank Center for Astrophysics in Manchester, and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the world’s largest particle physics laboratory.
He is the recipient of numerous awards for his multidisciplinary contributions to advertising, design, and art. Notable recognitions include the Ars Electronica Distinction Award, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity Titanium Grand Prix, D&amp;AD Black Pencil, and the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize.

The Power of Collaboration

Fernanda González is Group Experience Director at Media.Monks, where she leads UX and strategy for digital products and platforms across the US and Canada. Based in New York, Fernanda oversees the UX &amp; Strategy practice and is responsible for delivering world-class digital experiences across a wide range of industries, including technology, travel, retail, and more. With experience at Leo Burnett and Mirum Agency, Fernanda most recently spent five years at Media.Monks Mexico, where she built and led the UX team in LATAM. This wide range of experience informs her approach to design : a balance of functional but rich aesthetics and structure. For Fernanda, designing experiences is an exciting and constant challenge to strategize and be resourceful to innovate how we approach human and business problems.

Embracing Change : Designing Experiences in Times of Uncertainty

Zachary Lieberman is an artist, researcher, and educator with a simple goal : he wants you surprised. In his work, he creates performances and installations that take human gesture as input and amplify them in different ways : making drawings come to life, imagining what the voice might look like if we could see it, transforming people&#8217;s silhouettes into music.
He&#8217;s been listed as one of Fast Company&#8217;s Most Creative People and his projects have won the Golden Nica from Ars Electronica, Interactive Design of the Year from Design Museum London as well as listed in Time Magazine&#8217;s Best Inventions of the Year. He creates artwork through writing software and is a co-creator of openFrameworks, an open source C++ toolkit for creative coding and helped co-found and teaches at the School for Poetic Computation, a school examining the lyrical possibilities of code. He’s also a professor at MIT’s Media Lab, where he runs the Future Sketches group.

When he was turning 40, Zach decided to start a practice of daily sketching — making small artworks with code that he posts on social media as a way of saying hello to the world. This way of working openly has radically reshaped the way he thinks about making. In this talk, Zach will explore how small things can become big things, and what he has learned by reshaping his practice.

Freya Salway is the Head of Google Arts &amp; Culture Lab where she leads an artist residency program and oversees global collaborations with artists, scientists and cultural institutions. Based between Paris and London, The Lab is a place where tech and creative communities come together to share ideas and explore application of emerging technologies in an arts &amp; culture context. Prior to Google Freya founded an arts development studio working with artists, cultural organisations, brands and broadcasters. Her career began at Sky Arts where she designed a scholarship program to support emerging artists and led partnerships with cultural institutions across the UK.

Anna Ridler is an artist and researcher who works with systems of knowledge and how technologies are created in order to better understand the world. She is particularly interested in ideas around measurement and quantification and how this relates to the natural world. Her process often involves working with collections of information or data, particularly data sets, to create new and unusual narratives.
Her work has been exhibited widely at cultural institutions worldwide including the Barbican Centre, Centre Pompidou, HeK Basel, The Photographers’ Gallery, the ZKM Karlsruhe, Ars Electronica and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
