BrianAfande is the co-founder and CEO of BlackRhino VR and board Member at the Global Future Council on the Future of the Metaverse at the World Economic Forum.

He believes that future innovation ecosystems need to put the emphasis on the individual ; the human and the youth need to be the center piece. The youth in Africa need to be empowered by ensuring youth agency – the active participation of young people in shaping their own destiny. He sees himself as an agent of change accelerating the adoption of immersive technology tools in Africa by empowering young people to be the XR innovators and inventors of the future.

As a creative technologist, he leverages XR knowledge to expand opportunities for significant economic growth among the youth that will help them develop new ideas, technical skillsets, new business models and jobs that will contribute positively to overcoming his continent’s development challenges. As an early XR adopter, he holds a peculiar mission and vision of Designing, Democratizing, Demystifying and Deploying XR technologies in Africa.

As the African continent continues to evolve, Extended Reality (XR) technologies have become a driving force for innovation that has continued to connect creatives, entrepreneurs, investors, governments, and industries to achieve rapid digital growth in transformative ways by bringing physical and virtual worlds together. XR technologies are empowering an entire generation by offering new growth opportunities and pathways that has generated socio-economic development driven by African creativity. This talk will be a journey through the African XR ecosystems, its use cases, challenges, successes, future plans and opportunities.
