Salsifis douteux (Yellow Salsify)
As part of the Capture #2 exhibition to be held at Le Pavillon from 23 September 2023 to 14 January 2024
This interactive work invites visitors to take a still-closed flower bud and place it on a small cap on one of the “flowering bases”.
When the user presses the switch on the top of the base, the egret or pappus of the salsify (according to botany) opens to form a ball of silk. The opening sequence takes just a few minutes (between one and a half and two minutes). First, the bud begins to open, followed by the unfolding of each achene (dried fruit) and pappus (bundle of silk), one after the other, with astonishing geometry, speed and fluidity.
Finally, the system comes to a halt and the closed bud has just flowered.
